Family centred and goal directed therapy

At Little Steps Physio, Eloise Perrier holds family centred care at the forefront of her therapy.

What is family centred care?

Collaborating with the child, their family and those that are important to them, to come up with movement and participation goals that we can work towards together. These goals could be activities such as learning to ride a bike, running faster, sitting for longer, being able to walk when you go out on family adventures. Whatever the goal, it is vital for Paediatric Physiotherapy that the entire family is on the same page for the child’s care.

SERVICES AVAILABLE AT LITTLE STEPS PHYSIOTHERAPY

Mobile Paediatric Physiotherapy

Mobile Physiotherapy allows for sessions to be completed in an environment that is familiar to the child. This could be at their home, childcare, school, gym, local park... the options are limitless. Completing therapy in these spaces allows for the child to reach their full potential and achieve their goals. They are practicing the skills they use daily, with the equipment they use daily, to keep up with their friends. The success of home-based therapy is well-known, allowing for best family-centred practice and achieving goals. Eloise also has experience in prescribing and using specialised equipment, e.g. standing frames, wheelchairs, walkers, seating.

Telehealth Physiotherapy

Telehealth Physiotherapy is a great option for children and families to access Physiotherapy from anywhere! Most popularised during the Covid-19 pandemic, Telehealth services allow therapists to engage with families remotely. There is a body of evidence suggesting that therapy delivered via Telehealth is often as successful as an in-person delivered session for the Paediatric population.

Hydrotherapy/Aquatic Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy in an aquatic environment allows the child to utilise the hydrostatic properties of water to gently build strength. The water provides constant positional feedback and provides an enjoyable means for them to work towards their movement goals. These sessions also serve a safe means of early exposure to water or the pool environment.

Reporting

Reporting allows for your child’s allied health team to communicate and collaborate about your child’s progress and goals. Reporting also includes progress notes, NDIS access and review reports, research for equipment and assistive technology applications, as well as liaising with other key stakeholders including teachers and coaches.

Physiotherapists who work with the Paediatric population help the child achieve their maximal physical potential. Physios have specialist knowledge in movement, physical development and conditions that a baby, growing child or young adolescent may face in their early life.

Eloise works collaboratively with the child and their family to come up with meaningful goals that can be achieved TOGETHER.
